Landscaping and Irrigation Efficiency
By now most are aware of water resource limitations and the increased costs associated with it. The latest news is, of course, the 27.6% rate increase requested by Cal Am for 2012. So what can we do about it? Here are a few items everybody might take note of:
Cal Am has a number of rebate programs in place for those who purchased approved models of devices including:
Smart Controllers plus 4 stations --$100, additional $10 station up to 20 Stations.
Rain Sensor attached to an irrigation system--$25
Rotating Sprinkler Nozzle -- $0.50
Soil Moisture Sensor on Irrigation System -- $25
Cistern water tanks integrated into your irrigation system to catch rainwater
use during the summer -- $25.00 per 100 gallons, up to 3,000 gallons/site.
Lawn removal & replacement with low water use plants or permeable
Surfaces - $1.25 per square-foot up to 2,000 square feet.
Synthetic turf -- $2.00 per square-foot, up to 2,000 square feet per site.
Let Craven Landscaping do the application for you and submit to Cal Am for your rebate.
LIGHTING MAINTENANCE
Replace compromised fixtures, use widespread flood lights with more targeted effects and replace damaged or corroded wiring to optimize your existing facilities and extend their life.
The low voltage industry developed a number of exciting approaches to save electricity. LED Lighting is replacing Halogen and incandescent lamps. Why? LEDs last up to 100,000 hours vs. Halogen’s 20,000 vs. Incandescent’s 5,000 hours. It is estimated that a lamp will not have to be replaced until after 11 years of continuous operation. Furthermore this type of lighting uses less electricity… up to 60% less.
Property requirements change from time to time. As you review your needs, consider in-home wireless remote switching for greater control of outdoor features; swapping out 110-volt (line-level) components with low-voltage counterparts; and adding new effects, particularly those initially passed over or overlooked while the primary job was completed.
